Cleaning vs. Sanitizing

Many people confuse the concepts of cleaning and sanitation, thinking they can be used interchangeably. While both are extremely important, you should focus on how to clean and sanitize your home, particularly in 2020 as we define a “new normal.”

Imagine you’ve been digging in the dirt to plant some flowers. You’ll have mud under your fingernails and your hands would be grimy and visibly dirty.

If you rinse your hands with the garden hose, you would wash away the visible dirt. Are your hands clean? Yes. Are they sanitary? No! You would need to use an antibacterial soap or hand sanitizer to sanitize your hands completely.

On the flip side, if you rubbed hand sanitizer on your dirty hands without rinsing the dirt off, you’d still see dirty residue on your hands that the hand sanitizer couldn’t wash away. Your hands would be sanitary, but not clean.

In your house, we use a combination of cleaning and sanitizing techniques to ensure that your home environment is both clean and sanitary. We dust, vacuum, and wipe surfaces to remove dirt, debris, dust, pet hair, and any other particles that are keeping your home from being clean. Then we sanitize; we use disinfectants that are safe for each surface to remove bacteria, mold, viruses, and other harmful substances that vacuuming or dusting alone can’t eliminate. For the deepest cleanings, we use electrostatic fogging to kill bacteria and viruses on all surfaces.

Call us today and we’ll clean and disinfect your home, keeping you and your loved ones safe. We serve Hamilton County and Northern Indianapolis, Lafayette and West Lafayette.

Suffering from Fall Allergies?

About 75% of people who experience spring allergies also have allergy symptoms between early August to late September. In Indiana, ragweed is an extremely common allergen, and can truly put a damper on fall activities. With COVID causing heightened concern about stray sneezes and coughing, it’s tempting to let allergies hold us back from enjoying the cooler weather. To fight back, here are a few tips to keep your family safe and healthy this season:

  1. Change your air filters regularly. We often forget to handle this regular home maintenance task, and it can have a huge impact on preventing allergies. Make sure to change your air filters every 90 days at least, and consider every 45-60 days if you have pets in your home.
  2. Eliminate mold in your home. Allergens like mold can seriously affect your family’s health. Deep cleaning spaces in your home that are often damp is an important way to stop mold growth. Kitchen sinks and bathrooms are notorious for high mold count, and regular sanitation is vital to keeping these spaces free from mold and other allergens.
  3. Reduce dust and dirt. Letting dust, dirt, and pet hair and dander build up in your home can also impact your family’s health. Dusting and vacuuming regularly can help improve the air quality in your home, reducing seasonal allergies symptoms.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed during the back to school season, and house cleaning often gets pushed off when we’re balancing school schedules, homework, and careers.
